Project Title: Naddle Craft project for skilled vulnerable women


Location: Kabul City Afghanistan

Objective: To improve the economy of the vulnerable families at house hold level,
To provide job and private enterprise opportunities of vulnerable women to be productive member of the society and be self-reliant.

Project Description

1. Backgrounds and Justification:

During the civil war in Afghanistan, many Afghan have fled their homelands and displaced to other countries. The handicraft businesses have been seriously damaged due to migration of the residents and lost of resources.
Traditionally Afghan women have relied upon the male member of their families. But the circumstances have been changed, and due to two decades of war most of the families have lost their males. In addition, Afghans have combine style of living (10 to 15 Persons/ family), and in each family only one or two members are having the opportunity to work and support the rest of families,
The only alternative is to find family circle businesses for the widows and the orphans. Many attempts have been conducted by different welfare organization to handle this situation.

Current Situation

According to the BDR survey Report about 65% of Kabul City are vulnerable, where the children who are orphanage are working as labor in the City and also women headed families, the poor economy of the population is forced the women who are widows to bag in the city in order to support their families.
The majority of these vulnerable women have skills to produce Naddle craft, due to poor economy they are not in the position to buy raw materials and find market access for their products.
This area is selected by BDR is target area for the project and BDR is intending this project will improve the situation in the target area.

2. Objective
• To improve the economy of the vulnerable families at house hold level,

• To provide job and private enterprise opportunities of vulnerable women to be productive member of the society and be self-reliant.

• To enhance the skill and Knowledge of the skilled vulnerable women in new designs and Quality of products.




3. Activities
• Selection of beneficiaries according to the vulnerability criteria and Skill,
• Procure all necessary equiment, tools and material,
• Hiring staff for the project
• Starting project
• Training Support staff for marketing, networking, and product quality control and update designs.

4. Out put and out come

200 Widows and vulnerable skill will have job find job opportunities to support their family through Naddle craft project,

200 vulnerable skilled women will be the owner of their private enterprise after completion of project.

200 vulnerable women will skill will be enhanced in production of new designs of Naddle craft.

3 project staff will be gain the skill of marketing, designing and follow up for the future of the project.


After the completion of this Project, 200 skilled widows and needy women and 3 Support staff will be the owner of private enterprise. Furthermore, they will be in the position to support their families, and would be self-sufficient residents of the society


5. Beneficiaries

3 support staff and 200 skilled widows and vulnerable women and their family members will be the direct beneficiaries of the project.

7. Project Management

BDR Women Development section will facilitate proper management of the project. The section will facilitate the selection of beneficiaries according to the criteria.
The project manager will procure all necessary tools and equipment and raw material.
Project manager will carry out daily monitoring of the project to ensure proper implementation of the project.
The project manager will ensure preparation of progress reports, financial reports all necessary report to the BDR main office.
Women section will hire 3 support staff and they will be trained during the project implementation in marketing, networking, designing and quality control or the product in order to sustain the private enterprise after completion of the project.


8. Implementation process and methods

The trainees will be selected amongst the most vulnerable women living in the project site according to the vulnerability criteria and need assessment.
Test will be taken from the selected women in order to examine their skills.

BDR women section will prepare deferent design of Naddle craft of the updated version due to market analysis,

BDR Women section will ensure timely distribution of raw materials and collection of products from the women, through project support staff.

BDR women section-designing expert will provide continue consultation for the women in order to improve the quality of the products. And will train the support staff.

BDR Women will facilitate conducting of exhibition each month in BDR office, and also will do networking with private internal and external companies for finding sustained market access to the products,


The products will be sold through exhibitions, one private market, and also through exporting to foreign countries if possible.
BDR women Section will deduce the amount of 10 % from the products income and one year the whole budget will be evacuated from the project and
20 % will be paid to project support staff and 20 % income will be saved for the future enterprise budget, 50 % of the income will be paid to the women in order support their families.
After one year the project will became self-reliant and will work as private enterprise.
BDR women section will again start new beneficiaries on evacuated budget.


9. Monitoring and Evaluation

BDR project manager will carry every day monitoring of the project to ensure quality and proper implementation of the project.
BDR senior management will carry out timely monitoring to ensure the project implementation according to project objective.
BDR will carry out final evaluation to see the project result is relevant the planned objective of the project,
Impact monitoring will be carried out after six month by BDR in order to identify project impact and sustainability.


10. Sustainability:
Widows and needy women will be working as a commercial enterprise and self-supporting.
BDR women section will continues consultation and advise and technical information to embellished enterprise until they become self-reliance.


11. Finance and accounting

BDR finance section is providing support to all program area by preparing project budgets, controlling project expenditures, preparing timely financial Reports to the donors and Refunds project remaining budget to donor Agencies.

BDR board of Director is authorized office for approving all the project budgets and expenditure, which submitted by the agency director.

6.Impact on orphans and widows

During the civil war in Afghanistan, many afghan have fled their homelands and displaced to other countries.
Large number of Afghan women lost male members of their families during the war and internal conflict.
Traditionally Afghan women have relied upon the male member of their families so after losing the male the families are remain with out support and much relayed on Assistance.
During the long period of war the situation was not suitable especially for women or girls to study, therefore a large umber of women remained uneducated and they are over aged to go to schools.
Traditionally, Tailoring is women and teenagers concerned job in Afghan community, the widows and needy women can make a considerable amount of income, which obviously improves their position among the family members and the community.
During the training period, trainees of different families will have the opportunity to get together and exchange their experiences and skills.
Similarly, when they gain formal training illiteracy and tailoring skill they can encourage others to learn it and teach it to them. In this way the tailoring will become popular with the passage of time in the project site. The project will, therefore, have a great impact of the widows and poor women economic and socio-cultural conditions.



7. Project Management

BDR will assign one project Manager for the management of the training and will facilitate the selection of beneficiaries according to the criteria.
The project manager will procure all necessary tools and equipment and raw material.
Project manager will carry out daily monitoring of the project to ensure proper implementation of the project.
The project manager will ensure preparation of progress reports, fanacial reports all necessary report to the BDR main office.
BDR main office will submit all necessary Reports to the Donor.


8. Implementation Strategy
The trainees will be selected amongst the most vulnerable women living in the project site according to the vulnerability criteria and need assessment.
The trainees will be spilt into 10 separate groups (10 trainees per group). Therefore 10 trainers are needed to train the groups during the courses.

For each trainees group, two tailoring machines and literacy course materials w ill b e prepared, so the trainees could learn the skill practically. Raw materials will be provide by the project manager and passed through the trainers to the trainees.

The products produced by the trainees during the training course are likely to be of low quality as the might have many design mistakes will be sold and this will cover only the cast of row material,
In case of returning any profit, the amount will be spent to supply more materials for the trained people in the future.

Different designs might be worked out y the trainees to lean how to apply and work on variety of designs.
The project supervisor will closely supervise the trainers and their eleven groups.
